Sample learning courses
The courses in this section are provided as examples to help teachers plan and design their own, in their local context. Such courses will engage their students and make full use of the resources and opportunities in their classrooms, schools, whānau, and communities.
The examples cover a wide range of planning processes and styles. Teachers may not see their “regular” science course exemplified here.
The aim of this approach is not to undermine the value of existing courses but to stimulate innovative thinking and student-centred planning that will develop teachers’ confidence in developing new courses and enriching existing ones. If science education is to change in response to the demands of the 21st century, there must be a significant shift at the point where course design begins.
