Developing student awareness of careers in technology and related areas is a crucial aspect of technology education. Teachers can assist students to see pathways to future careers and develop positive attitudes and an appreciation of opportunities beyond school.
The website Futureintech has been developed to connect New Zealand technologists, engineers, and scientists with educational communities. It provides information and facilitated support for teachers and students related to careers in technology, science, and mathematics.
Futureintech have developed a set of diagrams (called sausage diagrams) to assist teachers and students to work out subjects that prepare students for qualifications and careers in technology, engineering, and applied sciences in senior secondary school.
Youth Guarantee is a Ministry of Education initiative designed to increase the educational achievement of 16 and 17 year olds by making education more responsive to their needs. The goal of the Youth Guarantee initiative is to create stronger links between senior secondary and lower-level tertiary education systems.
